GIS Receives Equipment from GIMMA

The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has received items worth two million three hundred thousand Ghana Cedis (GH₵2, 3000.000) from the EU funded Ghana Integrated Migration Management Approach (GIMMA) Project under the International Organisation for Migration (IOM).


The items which include two 4x4 Nissan pick-up, Information Technology (IT) equipment, and other items were donated to specific Units under the GIS namely; Border Patrol Unit, (BPU)  Migration Information Bureau(MIB) and Migration Data Processing Centre of the Management Information System Unit.

The purpose of the donation is to augment government’s migration management efforts through enhanced border management, strengthen data collection mechanism and enable potential migrants to make informed migration decisions.

The equipment will also benefit five border posts in the Volta region, (Hodzokope, Agortime Afegame border post) Western, (Sewum, Antokrom and Yaakese border) the National Headquarters, and the four major entry points;  Kotoka International Airport, Aflao, Elubo and Paga.
Border Patrol Unit
The items donated to the BPU comprise; two 4x4 Nissan Double Cabin Pick-Up and its accessories, five Suzuki Motorbikes DR200SE, 1 Motorola Shipping and Clearing, 2 Radio Handset, 2 radio Car Kit, 50 radio base station  and  1 clearing of tent, camp beds and rain  coats. It Also include 40 camp beds, 30 tent 16x16 expandable &  6 screen windows, 40 military raincoat – 100% waterproof, 5 owl night vision binocular devices, 5 Yamaha generator single phase 6.0 KVA, 5 solar panel – 2.5 and 4 Air - condition 2.5. The rest are 5 HP Desktop Computer, 5 Kaspersky Anti-Virus software 2016, 5 Microsoft Office professional 2016, 5 Multi- purpose printer, 5 UPS (Mercury Elite 850 PRO), 5  Prefab, 15 Office Desk with Drawers, 15 swivel chairs, 5 visitor chairs, 5 four seater-chairs (4- in – one chair) and 10 Filling Cabinet – Metal all totaling GH₵1,482,424.70

Migration Information Bureau (MIB)
The items donated to MIB which is worth GH₵ 171, 017.81 include; 1 Fuji generator 5KVA, 3 Dell laptop latitude E547015, 8 HP Desktop computer 13, 8 UPS- APC 650VA, 12 Microsoft office standard 2016, 3 HP printer Enterprise 600, 1 Canon copier IR 2202N, 1 LG Led television 49, 1 Infocus projector IN116X, 1 Blutek Project screen and 3 Fellows shredder 75CS. The rest of the items are 1 Kaspersky Anti –Virus 2016, 2 Microsoft 435 lumia phone, 1 LG DVD  player DP 132, 1 Public Address System and Megaphone, 6 Sony voice recorder ICD – PX333, 1 Flip board stand, 1 flash light, 1 Canon camera SX420, 2 Surfline 4G router, 3 Airtel fixed wireless terminal  and financial contribution to refurbishing.

Migration Data Processing Centre Of the Management Information System Unit
The Unit received  5 HP Envy Desktop, 7 HP Scanjet enterprise flow, 29 HP slimline desktop, 1 Dell Poweredge rack server , 5 ICR form storm license,  Citrix, EDI Software, IonCube, HTTPS, 5 D- Link 24 ports network switch (model 1024d) and 2 Maxima UPS 6KVA. The remaining equipment are 9 Ultimate UPS 1500VA, 17 Swivel chairs, 10  foldable tables, 2 canopy tents, 40 overcoats, 150 boxes for migration cards, 1 assorted item for sorting migration cards and 1 statistical analysis software (analytics pro) all items costing GH₵ 644,843.15.

The presentation ceremony was held at the National Headquarters of GIS here in Accra.  The Comptroller – General, Kwame Asuah Takyi received the equipment with the assistance of the Deputy Minister for the Interior, Hon. Henry Quartey.
