HIGHLIGHTS OF THE N.M.P.

 

Mr-Prosper-Bani, Minister-for-Interior-launching-the-National-Migration-Poicy.

The Minister for the Interior, Hon. Prosper D.K. Bani has reiterated the government’s commitment to the implementation of the National Migration Policy (NMP) and has called on all stakeholders to provide a collaborative support in ensuringthat they promote the benefits and minimize the costs of migration towards the development of the nation.


The Minister made this statement at the launch of the National Migration Policy (NMP) in Accra organized by the Ministry of the Interior in collaboration with the Inter-Ministerial Steering Committee on Migration and Development.

The Launch was on the theme “Managing Migration for Ghana’s Development”

Hon. Prosper D. K. Bani, Minister-for-the-Interior launching the National Migration Policy.

The policy highlights key concerns in the area of Internal Migration, Urbanization, Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), Irregular Migration, Human Trafficking and Migrant Smuggling, Labour Migration, Return, Readmission and Reintegration of Emigrant Ghanaians and Border Management.


It will also look at Refugees and Asylum - seekers, Protection Displacement Situation, Stateless Persons, Migration, the Environment and Climate Change, and Crosscutting themes and issues such as Diaspora, Dual citizenship and Transnationalism, Institutional frame work for Policy Implementation, Migration International Cooperation and enhancing capacity of stakeholders.


Some of the stakeholders include Ghana Immigration Service, Ministry of Interior, Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Gender, Children and Social Protection, Trade and Industry, National Development Planning Commission, International Organization for Migration and German International Cooperation.


NMP is being funded and supported  by the European Union (EU), DFID, German International Cooperation (GIZ), International Organization for Migration (IOM), Centre for Migration Studies, University of Ghana, Ministry of Finance and the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS).


The goal of the NMP is to promote the benefits and reduce the cost of internal and international migration through legal means with the rights and security of migrants well respected in order to ensure socio-economic development of the country.
