GIS TO INTRODUCE STICKERS FOR RESIDENCE PERMIT

The Ghana Immigration Service from Monday 2nd of February, 2015 would start issuing stickers to principal Residence Permit holders, their Dependents, Students and Rotators.
This was necessitated due to the increase in fraudulent and fake residence permit being acquired in the county by foreign nationals thereby preventing the Service form meeting its revenue targets. To curb this menace, the Management of the Service in consultation with the Board agreed to come up with this new measure.

Meanwhile the existing stamps for visitors permit extension, re-entry and endorsement would still be in use until the appropriate stickers are designed. The Deputy Director for Operations, Felix Srapong, disclosed this at a day seminar held for thirty three (33) selected personnel of the Service form the eleven commands of GIS in Accra.

The aim was to train the participants on how to administer the stickers to ensure that the process is handled efficiently and also ensure that participants are familiar with the features of the sticker. He expressed the hope that the security features and the strict storage of the newly introduced stickers will drastically reduce the high incidence of fake and fraudulent acquisition of GIS residence permits and subsequently, meet international Immigration best practices and improve revenue generation.

The training was expected to equip the officers with skills and knowledge to enable them render professional service to the public, Mr. Sarpong added.
The participants were drawn from the Processing and Account Sections, and the Enforcement Unit of GIS.
