The Director of the Ghana Immigration Service, (GIS) Felix Yaw Sarpong, has stated that formulating a new Strategic Plan at this time as a Service is critical to the successful implementation of the Immigration Service Act, 2016 (Act 908). The Act seeks to strengthen the Service operationally and administratively.

It is the reason why the GIS approached the “Support for Free Movement of Persons and Migration in West Africa”( FMM West Africa) Project for assistance in the evaluation of the 2011-2015 Strategic Plan and the drafting of a new Five Year strategic  plan  with  a Monitoring and Evaluation Mechanism, he said.

The review of the old strategic plan and the drafting of the new one are important steps to enable the Service to effectively prioritize, and carry out its mission and vision as well as evaluate its performance against the strategic objectives laid out in the plan.

The planning process is expected to provide a valuable opportunity for dialogue and consensus building among the Managemnet, Staff and the Board to help define a shared vision and outline the roadmap to follow in achieving them.

The Director thanked the Government of Ghana for its continuous support, the European Union (EU) for the dedication to the cause of the Service, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) for their partnership and guidance, the American Government for the in training support and the International Centre for Migration Policy Development for the collaboration and assistance over the years.

The Director of Immigration made these known during the inception workshop to commence the process of evaluating the GIS Strategic Plan 2011-2015 and to draft a new strategic plan.
